Funding Guidelines

Guidelines for Applying for Donations and Sponsorship

Coastal Community will only make one contribution per organization per budget year, unless special circumstances can be demonstrated. This includes financial or gift in-kind support through a branch or the Coastal Spirit Fund.

Coastal Community will accept applications from organizations that meet the following criteria:

  • Registered charities and recognized community not-for-profit groups working in arts and culture, economic development, community service, education, the environment, health, sports and recreation or youth.
  • Service Club initiatives, with the exception that Service Club initiatives will not be funded through the Coastal Spirit Fund. (According to Wikipedia.org (as of August 17, 2009), “A service club…is a voluntary non-profit organization where members meets regularly to perform charitable works either by direct hands-on efforts or by raising money for other organizations.
  • Amateur Sports Organizations (Coastal Community will consider applications from sports associations and sports leagues for all programs.
  • Start-up funding for granting foundations.
  • Serving communities in Coastal Community’s trade area: Victoria, Duncan, Chemainus, Nanaimo, Gabriola Island, Nanoose, Parksville, Qualicum, Port Alberni, Ucluelet, Tofino, the Comox Valley, Campbell River, Discovery Islands, Port Hardy, Port McNeill, Sointula and Alert Bay.

Applications will not be accepted for:

  • Partisan political or religious organizations and affiliated activities
  • Groups that are not registered charities or recognized as community not-for-profits
  • Requests to cover travel costs
  • Telephone solicitations
  • Individual sports teams (sports associations and sports leagues will be considered providing the above criteria are met)
  • Groups representing a conflict of interest for Coastal Community, or that promote specific programs or issues where members of the Credit Union may have divergent views 
  • National organizations or organizations that do not directly benefit the communities served by the Credit Union
Specific Guidelines for the Quadra Credit Union Legacy Fund

To be eligible for support through the Quadra Credit Union Legacy Fund made available through Coastal Community Credit Union, your request for funding must be $1,000 or more and your organization must be located on the Discovery Islands or provide a direct benefit to this region.

On occasion, Coastal Community does offer support to groups or projects outside Coastal Community’s trade area.  Support in this area is at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors.  This category of support falls outside of the funding allocated to support community and in general is targeted to support people affected by catastrophic events (past examples include the Kelowna Fires, Hurricane Katrina and the Tsunami in East Asia). 
Coastal Community reserves the right to consider all decisions for support as final.  From time to time, Coastal Community may provide support, under special circumstances, to groups that may fall outside the policy.

Groups that receive support from CCCU

Organizations that receive funding from Coastal Community Credit Union may be asked to participate in activities to promote the support they receive.  These activities include, but are not limited to, cheque presentation events, photos of such events and the provision of information, quotations, and photos for media releases and other Credit Union communications

Organizations that receive funding must provide a written summary of the project or event within 30 days upon completion of the project, including: 

  • Overview of the project or event outcome
  • Who and how many people were helped
  • Projected long-term impact of the initiative
  • Summary of who was involved from the community
  • Copies of any publicity material or media coverage

Groups receiving support are also encouraged to use Coastal Community Credit Union for financial services.

Trademarks and Promotion

Groups receiving support are encouraged to use our logo or name in related print and advertising material. Use of the logo must be approved by the Credit Union and one week notice is required for approval. Fax samples to (250) 741-3223, attention Marketing.
