Be PIN Smart

While our Member Card ATM and Debit network is among the most secure in the world, debit card fraud can still occur.

Follow these tips to keep your Member Card and PIN safe:

  1. Use your hand, body or other blocking device such as a book or piece of paper, to shield your PIN from prying eyes.
  2. Never let your Member Card out of your sight when conducting a point-of-sale transaction.
  3. Only allow your card to be swiped once when debiting a purchase.
  4. Always take your debit card and transaction record with you once you've completed your transaction.
  5. Check your statement and account balances regularly for irregularities. If the entries are inconsistent with your transaction activities, contact your branch immediately.
  6. If your Member Card is lost, stolen or retained by an ATM, notify your branch immediately.
  7. Keep your Member Card in a safe place and never lend it out to anyone.
  8. Never reveal your PIN to anyone, or you could be liable for losses. If you suspect that your PIN has been compromised, call your branch immediately to have it changed, or cancel the card and obtain a new one.
  9. Memorize your PIN. Never right it down and keep it with your Member Card.
  10. When creating your PIN, never use obvious information such as your phone number, birth date, address or Social Insurance Number.
  11. Be aware of changes to the device you are using. Is there anything to indicate that a skimming device might be attached? If you have concerns, report them to your branch immediately.
  12. Only conduct transactions when and if you feel secure. Don't allow yourself to be distracted during a transaction, finish what you are doing and retrieve your card. If you are unable to retrieve your card, or you notice any suspicious activity or behaviour while making a transaction, contact your branch immediately.
