You may have seen videos online featuring celebrities promoting investment opportunities, especially in cryptocurrency or AI. While these endorsements might look convincing, many are part of a growing scam trend that uses artificial intelligence to create realistic “deepfake” videos.

These fake videos are designed to trick you into investing money in fraudulent cryptocurrency platforms. Once you transfer your funds, you’ll eventually find yourself locked out of your account or unable to recover your money. You may even be prompted to pay fees to get your money back. Unfortunately, some people have lost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to these scams.

How the Scam Works

Scammers use AI to mimic the appearance and voice of well-known public figures. These fake videos are then shared on social media, often with links to professional-looking websites or apps. You’re encouraged to act fast, sometimes with promises of exclusive access or limited-time offers. Initially, you might see positive returns. But over time, access may be restricted and your funds may vanish.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • Celebrity Endorsements: Be cautious of investment opportunities promoted by celebrities online. These are rarely legitimate.
  • Unrealistic Returns: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Guaranteed or unusually high profits are a major warning sign.
  • Urgency and Pressure: Scammers often push you to make quick decisions. Take your time and verify the offer.
  • Limited Control: If you’re not in full control of your investment account or wallet, it’s likely a scam.
  • Requests for More Money: If you’re asked to pay additional fees to “unlock” or “recover” your funds, that’s a red flag.

Protect Yourself

Before investing, do your research. Talk to a trusted financial advisor and verify the legitimacy of any offer—especially those involving cryptocurrency or AI. If something feels off, trust your instincts and walk away.

Staying informed is your best defense. Scammers are getting smarter, but with awareness and caution, you can stay one step ahead.
