The ability to renew eligible personal ICBC policies isn’t the only change coming for BC drivers. As of May 1, 2022, drivers will no longer be required to display a licence plate validation decal to show they have valid insurance. BC is joining five other Canadian jurisdictions to do away with decals.

Does this change affect all BC drivers?

While this is an added convenience for online renewals, this change is for all drivers. As of May 1, drivers can choose to remove their decal or leave it on their plate if they wish.

What about a lost decal for policies effective April 30, 2022 or earlier?

If you lose a decal before May 1, 2022, you will need to get a replacement, as decals do need to be displayed until that date. After May 1, you don’t need to replace a lost decal regardless of the policy effective date.

Will drivers still get a decal if they choose early renewal, available from March 17, 2022?

No, decals will not be issued for policies effective on or after May 1, 2022.
